Title: On Writing
Author: Stephen King
Star Rating: 3/5
Review: King surprised me on a lot of aspects of writing that I thought I knew well in this book. One of the first things that King mentions in the toolbox is vocabulary. He says that one shouldn’t intentionally try to improve their vocabulary, which is contrary to what many English teacher give as assignments. I think that by reading a lot of different types of work, overtime we develop our own voice and learn how to use the words that we personally know most effectively.

Title: Nothing Daunted
Author: Dorothy Wickenden
Star Rating: 4/5
Review: This nonfiction book tells the story of two women who have become jaded by Eastern high society They trade in the affluence of their youth for the opportunity to teach school in a small Colorado town. The information comes mainly from the letters they wrote back home and I enjoyed reading the excerpts and quotes the author included. I would recommend this book because it provides a good sense of what life was like on the eve of World War I, with particular attention to the contrast between East and West.
